The most perfectly preserved Stradivarius violin is in a glass case and can’t be played, which is both a damned shame and the subject of this engaging film about the most elusive of instruments. Award-willing violinist Ruth Palmer circumnavigates the globe looking for a Stradivari to play, along the way illuminating the weird relationship of collectors and musicians. Sometimes a violin is not just a violin.
