Performing Bands and Musical Acts
DJ Spooky
DJ Spooky (a.k.a. Paul D. Miller) is a writer, conceptual artist, and pioneer in the field of mashups and mixing; a politically-minded musical archivist who works at the borders of performance art and musical statement. Spooky connects soul music's "then" and "now," cutting soul-inspired vinyl with video footage from Wattstax, Mel Stuart's acclaimed documentary. Wattstax chronicles the monumental 1972 concert — featuring Isaac Hayes, the Staples Singers, and Richard Pryor — Stax Records staged in the Watts neighborhood of Los Angeles.

The influence of English singer/songwriter Robyn Hitchcock may be felt throughout the music world. Hitchcock’s career began in 1976 with punk/new wave band The Soft Boys before moving into solo work in 1981. Surrealist, melancholic themes dominate his work, though always balanced by a sense of whimsical and wry humor.
-Though the concert is sold out, there is limited admittance for Festival Pass holders on a first come, first served basis
LIVE PERFORMANCE -playing in conjunction with the screening of Robyn Hitchcock: I Often Dream of Trains, A Concert Film

Thee Majesty feat. Genesis Breyer P-Orridge
Thee Majesty began in 1998 as a spoken word project, originally founded by Genesis Breyer P-Orridge of Psychic TV and Bryin Dall of 4th Sign of the Apocalypse, A Murder of Angels and Dream Into Dust. Featuring P-Orridge, Thee Majesty is made up of a revolving group of members including Morrison Edley of PTV3 and The Toilet Boys. Thee Majesty’s music is a mix of spoken word performance art against Dall’s free-flowing guitar rhythms.
LIVE PERFORMANCES by Thee Majesty are uncommon, but CIMMfest will be host to a special OPENING NIGHT presentation, following the Chicago premiere of the documentary, WILLAM S. BURROUGHS: A MAN WITHIN, featuring Genesis Breyer P-Orridge, who also appears in conjuction with Marie Losier's screening of Papal Broken-Dance.

Jon Langford
Born in Wales, Jon Langford entered the music world in 1977 as the drummer for The Mekons, one of the most prolific bands of first-wave British punk. Taking up the guitar and founding The Waco Brothers in the early 1990’s, Langford has been highly influential in his style of blending folk and country roots into modern punk music. Currently based in Chicago, Langford has released two solo albums in addition to his collaborations with Richard Buckner, Kevin Coyne and Sally Timms. Beyond his music, Langford is also an active visual artist, working in both paint as well as performance art and is a regular contributor to This American Life.
