Q&A AFTER TWO HEADED COW SCREENING
PERFORMING SATURDAY MARCH 7 @ DOUBLE DOOR
Crystal clear electronic sounds and powerful kicking beats. Sharp, intelligent dancefloor electronica rhythms melt together with fantastic clean Electro sounds. Situated in the intersection where post-industrial experimentalism, trip-hop, IDM, and moody string sections meet.
Dent May & His Magnificent Ukulele
As a kitschy self-styled pop showman, May fronts a four-man indie pop ensemble called Dent May & His Magnificent Ukulele, in which he sings and plays the eponymous stringed instrument.
Mimetic (Switzerland)
Abraham Levitan (Frontman for Baby Teeth)
The frontman for ironic Chicago club rock trio Baby Teeth, Levitan will perform songs from his first solo album, Speak, Memory, which delves into the same stew of influences, from pop and soul to prog rock.
The Lonesome Organist
Using guitar, keys, harmonica, steel drum, and various percussion instruments, Jeremy Jacobson achieves his unique blend of blues, rock, garage, Caribbean, and Appalachian sounds. No more than 8 tracks are recorded for each song, preserving the authenticity of his live show in which he simultaneously plays two or more instruments at once.
Andre Williams
Deemed the Black Godfather, this Chicagoan plays unapologetic, gritty yet soulful R&B. He hit the scene in 1955, co-writing Stevie Wonder's first song "Thank You for Loving Me," and more than 50 years later Williams continues to dazzle and energize crowds with his characteristic stage presence and sound.
The David Boykin Expanse
The authentic Chicago South Side jazz ensemble for modern times, the David Boykin Expanse features Boykin on sax and vocals and Nicole Mitchell on flute. They perform original compositions that infuse hip hop style rhyming into jazz without sacrificing the core elements of each—the rhythmic complexity, especially swing feel, of jazz; the harmonic complexity of jazz; and the use of multisyllabic words, varied rhyme scheme, alliteration, metaphor, and other poetic devices common to some styles of hip hop emceeing.
Old Ceremony
The Old Ceremony draws their water from a deep well of music ranging from the Beatles to Beck, Leadbelly to Led Zeppelin. Unorthodox instrumentation meets superb songwriting, to create a unique interpretation of rock'n'roll. They were included in PASTE Magazine's "Top 100 Albums of 2006."
Robban Hagnäs (Finland)
Robban Hagnas is the founder and bass player of the Wentus Blues Band,
Scandinavia's finest blues experience. Wentus has toured in 15 different countries, released 7 albums, done several TV shows, headlined festivals, and toured with countless great blues musicians from around the world.
Percolator
Chicago band Percolator has earned admiring comparisons to Pavement, They Might Be Giants, the Meat Puppets, and Built to Spill since they were founded in 2006. Since then, they have been busy making music, recording four EPs and an LP, all of which you can download for free from their website. "Keep an eye on these guys." -- Chicagoist
